So since having Charles, I have been finding it hard to create content. The lack of motivation has definitely taken over, I mainly put this down to having a faulty gallbladder and spleen due to the complications of pregnancy of course; my son has been an absolute angel. But I found this mental health tag on Happy Mentality and felt like it would be a good thing to participate in! I am a bit late to the party but I haven’t done a tag like this in a while!
1. WHAT IS YOUR MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE?
I have generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and in relation to my migraines a slight OCD tendency.
2. DO YOU HAVE MEDICATION AND/OR THERAPY?
Before pregnancy, I was on amitriptyline for my migraines which also helped with my anxiety. However, I had to stop these immediately and then after pregnancy they were no longer deemed suitable (as they would help me sleep and with a newborn you need to be alert). So I was then put on propanolol but I haven’t found them that helpful. I did CBT a few years back which maybe helped more with the social aspect.
3. WHAT THERAPY/MEDICATION HAVE YOU TRIED AND HAS ANY WORKED FOR YOU?
I basically answered that above but I do think being a mum has been the thing that has helped me the most. I have a little boy that now depends on me and it has helped me out my shell a little bit!
4. HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD PROBLEMS FOR?
I’ve had bad anxiety all my life I think but the peak was my late teen years 15-18. The generalised anxiety showed mostly when I started my periods at age 12 but the social definitely came more at 15-16 when I was about to leave high school and mostly when I left college.
5. DO YOUR FAMILY/FRIENDS KNOW?
I try to be as open as possible; my family are definitely aware. I was never really open with my friends although they had conditions I’m semi-glad I wasn’t now I’m older but younger me really shouldn’t have had to hide how she felt.
6. DOES THIS AFFECT YOUR WORK AND DAILY LIVING?
Yes definitely affects my daily living. I actually barely leave my home and work from home for this reason. However, if I can leave the house on my own without anyone else; that calms me more weirdly.
7. WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL CALM?
Watching youtube videos or talking to myself. It may sound weird but just sitting and staring at a wall and talking it out with myself really helps.
8. WHAT DO YOU DO IN CRISIS?
Just sit and have a good cry.
9. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS SUFFERING?
Let those around you know. The likelihood is someone in your close circle is too!
10. WHAT MAKES YOU SMILE?
My son, my family (my partner and dad really know how to make me laugh, it’s like a superpower they have). Making wax melts.
